Golden Apple Awards
Through the generosity and kindness of the Donahue Family Foundation, the Golden Apple Awards Program has been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Harrisburg. The Golden Apple Awards were first presented by the Donahue Family Foundation in 1992 in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Jack and Rhodora Donahue are the parents of 13 children who were all educated in Catholic schools. The Donahues were eager to express their deep appreciation to Catholic school teachers for providing quality academic and faith-filled education for their children. One of their sons, William Donahue, is now the president of the foundation, which invited the Diocese of Harrisburg and the Diocese of Youngstown (Ohio) to participate beginning in 2005.
Each year, the Golden Apple Award will be given to six teachers and one principal in the Diocese of Harrisburg. The award will consist of the following:

Dr. Carmen Brown, affectionately referred to by her students as simply "Doctora" received her Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Seville, Spain where she was born. Dr. Brown loves to travel and learn about different cultures. She also enjoys reading about new grammatical approaches to teaching and methods for engaing students in the daily routine of learning a language.
One of her goals as a Spanish Teacher is to stimulate students to become personally involved with Spanish as a living language. She feels that a language like Spanish can enrich students' lives as a practical and useful tool, one that can open their eyes to new and different cultures and ideas.

Welcome to Delone Catholic!
This is my 14th year teaching at Delone Catholic, and I am as excited to begin this new school year as I was on my first day in 2005. There is something wonderful when learning about life through literature, discipline through grammar, and expression through composition that makes every day exciting.

A Note from Mr. Fournie
I'm excited for my second year at Delone Catholic! Most of the time, you'll find me in the library fulfilling various roles, from assisting research projects to curating displays to coordinating our Virtual High School program. When I'm not working in the library, I'm teaching Sociology, American Government, and Creative Writing.
For virtually my entire life, I've been involved in Catholic education, both as a student (pre-K through grad school) and as an educator (8 years in both middle and high school English and Social Studies).
I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve the students of Delone Catholic.

A Note From Mrs. Fuhrman
Teaching juniors and seniors gives me the opportunity to prepare our students for what is next. Rather than asking students what they want to be when they grow up, I prefer to ask them, "What problems do you want to solve?"
In Economics and American Government, my students and I set out to learn the problem solving skills they will need to make our world a better place.
In my honors American Cultures course, my students and I seek to develop the historical perspective that allows us to understand how our current issues and events developed and how they might best be addressed for the benefit of humanity.
