Navigating Senior Year Virtually

Navigating Senior Year Virtually

By Evelyn Flake '21

I am a senior at Delone Catholic High School. Due to pandemic, I am one of the few students who has chosen to do virtual learning. It was not an easy decision to remain home this school year, but I am blessed that Delone Catholic has provided me with the option of being a virtual student. Learning from home is a whole new concept to me and many of my teachers, but the faculty and staff have been working to ensure my success this school year. Being virtual is not easy because I miss my friends and the atmosphere at school, but Delone Catholic has ensured all virtual students feel included in classes and school events.

My school day follows the same schedule as those who are physically present in school. I have an assigned schedule and I am able to be virtually present in all of my classes. All of my teachers set up Google meets during each of my class periods so I can still be in class with all of the other students learning the material and participating in class.

Delone just recently purchased a new device called the Swivl, which rotates in the direction of the teacher. The use of this new device allows us virtual students to 100% see what is happening in the classroom, just as if we were physically present. All of the technology and effort put in by the faculty and staff makes me feel confident in my ability to succeed this 2020-2021 school year.
