One Month In: Senior Year During COVID

What is life like right now at Delone Catholic High School, in light of COVID-19? Coming from a student’s perspective, my name is Grace Myers, and I am a senior. COVID-19 has had a huge impact on me personally and on the school community. I am so thankful that we are in school full-time and doing great! Delone is doing the best they can with providing for the students. We wear masks all day, social distance, and make the best of what we have.

Everything is different, but we are making it work. I appreciate all the hard work the teachers and staff do for us to keep everyone safe at all times. During these times, academically, everything is the same. However, there are students who choose to be virtual because they do not want to risk coming to school. The virtual students are usually on a Zoom meeting during the actual class period. The lunches have changed a good bit. There are now three lunches, and social distancing is crucial during those times. We have Mass, but we social distance during those times as well.

Our athletics are unfortunately changed as well. I play volleyball and it is tough right now. The guidelines are a lot but we have to follow them in order to continue the season. Mentally, everything about school and athletics is upsetting. It’s hard to play with no one watching, but I am just happy to have a season. Overall, I am appreciative to have everything back, even though it’s not the same, at least we have something!
